London Olympics 2012 – Day 10

Greenwich Park turned GOLD, for Great Britain’s Show Jumping “Fantastic 4” (Nick Skelton, Scott Brash, Peter Charles and Ben Maher). GB’s very own Bionic Man, Nick Skelton set up a GB Jump-Off victory over the Dutch, which finally needed an Uber-Confident Peter Charles to Jump Clear, he did and the rest is history. Britain’s first GOLD in this event for 60 years. Any Single Horse Loving Ladies out there, Singleton Scott Brash would love to show you his Golden Medal….

Jason Kenny wins Sprint Gold to make it 5G’s out the Velodrome, with more to come tomorrow. Laura Trott leads the field in the Omnium, with 3 events to go. Victoria Pendleton in Sprint Semi’s & Final tomorrow (Day 11).

If it carries on like this the IOC will probably restrict us to riding Chopper Bikes in Rio 2016. Catch “The Tour” in your town from Sept 9

In the Olympic Stadium on Day 10 our Girls did well in the 200m (2 out of 3 qualifying). Andrew Osagie made it through to the Men’s 800m Semi’s, meanwhile that Algerian that was Posing while qualifying for the 1500m Yesterday (Day 9) was kicked out earlier on Day 10 for not trying in the 800m heats by the Sports Referee. A very long argument preceded his reinstatement after having medical clearance. Very big rumours were Algeria were close to being expelled also…. All the British women made the 1500m Semi’s, while Hurdler Tiffany Porter scraped into semi’s 3rd in her heat.

Glory for Lawrence Okoye our soon to be great Discus Thrower, made the final for the first time. Now, Lawrence win it and you can then go to Oxford University . Dai Greene failed to place in the top 3 as Felix Sanchez returned to shock the field winning the 400m Hurdles GOLD again after eight years. Felix cried like a baby through the medal ceremony, to the applause of a loving British Crowd. Our Women’s 400m Hurdler Perry Shakes-Drayton might run in the final after all the protests have been heard, the Czech girl jumped lane… so we think! Michael Johnson was a God at 400m, Back in the Day. The World Record may still be his… but not for long. A Grenadian (Kirani Country) called Kirani James is the threat; he won Gold in a sub 44 second lap, in a field of Caribbean’s with a couple of Flemish Twins, not an American in sight for the 1st time in 32 years… Is this another shift of power? How many of this field are on US Taxpayers Collage Grants? Hummm.

Oh, sorry Steve Solomon last in an Olympic final but not forgotten, stick in their mate, the Gold’s will come.

Holly Bleasdale suffered a bit of stage fright in the Pole Vault, leaving the Olympic Stadium in floods of tears, but said, “Yes” when her fella proposed later. Holly you have all the talent, it’s days like this that will make you stronger, you’re a future Star, thanks for trying.

Dopers appear again, Alex the Walker, told to Walk-Off for Doping… “Oops, I made a mistake” he said. An US Judoka was disqualified also.

Three British Female Boxers started the day in the Women’s tournament. Ireland’s Katie Taylor a 60kg Favourite, Four Times World Champion with every other Title somewhere else in her locker took apart GB’s Natasha Jonas, in the Excel Arena, in an atmosphere more typical of Croke Park, Dublin. Sadly, Middleweight Savannah Marshall lost to Morlova from Kazakhstan also. On a happier note, big punching Flyweight Nicola Adams took on and beat the Bulgarian Petrova for a place in the Semi’s with a 16-7 win.

GB’s Beth Tweddle went out hunting for Great Britain’s First Women’s Gymnastics’ Medal ever. Beth on the Uneven Bars, in her last Olympics, possibly her last event and for that occasion gymnasts from every corner of the globe preformed in that final, It took Beth 41 seconds, a fantastic exercise, with a wobble on landing, sadly an important wobble, as wobbles go. GOLD went to Mustafina, a Russian with no wobbles, China took Silver, Beth took a Bronze, she got a medal, colour or worth can never repay the work, effort or belief we have in British Gymnastics, that belief was instilled into the British Public by Beth Tweddle.

Beth you may retire, you will never be forgot, Thank You

Kristen Thomas wobbled too, 8th in the Men’s Vault competition. Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti won GOLD on the Rings for Brazil, with a fantastic display of power & finesse, let’s hope the football team can follow suit.

Women’s GB Hockey stars lost to The Netherlands 2-1, now have Argentina in the Semi Finals on Wednesday (Day 12)

Men’s GB Water Polo Team lost again this time to Montenegro, to end our involvement in this event. The team player pool will grow, the squad will develop and we will learn to compete in a new arena, bring on Rio…

What the Feck was that dive, Stefan?

Aussies won a GOLD…. On the water, not in it… while Kitty Chiller the Aussie Assistant Big Boss, did something strange, she nearly admitted defeat…. Once upon a time, An Australian would never lay down, especially to a Pome or a Kiwi…. Suck it up!

In the Women’s Football USA beat Canada 4-3 in extra time to play Japan who beat France for the GOLD medal.

Wow
