London Olympics 2012 – Day 9

GB Star Class Sailors Ian Percy & Andrew Simpson lost the GOLD in the last 200m of their Medal Race as 5000 fans looked on from Weymouth, Silver and Second Place, never has a nation felt such loss for two of it’s own.

That Dane, a Dutchman & Big Ben Ainslie went “Head to Head” in the Finn Class Final. They started with a game of “Cat n Mouse” around the Start Line avoiding “Bad Air” and looking for Tide & Wind patterns to exploit in the “Battle of the Bay.” Like all Regattas, it can come down to one mistake. The final race encountered shifting winds and a fantastic battle of wits, the Dane & Dutch men both made mistakes to allow Ben to win GOLD & become the “Greatest Sailor in Olympic History.” Celebrationary smoke and a smile from the Princess Royal, followed by a recital of Royal Britannia just added to the crowd’s delight down in Weymouth again.

Four GOLD’s in Four Olympics arise Sir Ben

A 5th place in the Women’s Triple Jump and failure to qualify for the Men’s 400 & 1500m Finals, seemed to subdue the crowd, Until Christine Ohuruogu claimed a Silver to go with the Gold she won in Beijing. This girl really does save the best till last. Brilliant Run.

There are lost of stories about nations failing to capitalise on their chances, none more so than the Australian Hockey squad. Last night they had the Men’s GB players 3-0 down and almost out. The crowd saw a glimmer of hope half way through the second half, ramping up the noise, helped install a belief these World Champions can be challenged and dare I say it, we scored 3 cracking goals to pull out a much-needed draw, The crowd were in a frenzy, with one game in an open group to go.
